The Art of Bow and Arrow: A Guide to Playing Hunters

The Hunter class is full of controversy. There shouldn’t be any, but there is. People think that you have to play Hunters in one certain way, but you don’t. In fact, the Hunter class is quite versatile.

This is the first of ten articles about Hunters. They will be displayed once a week, and will have information about the Hunter class, such as:

  • How to PvP with a Hunter

  • What spec you should take

  • Gear?

  • But Hunter’s have a bad reputation!

  • 1-30 leveling guide

This first article is about the spec of the Hunter class. Many people think that to be a hunter, you send your pet in, stand back, arcane shot, then just auto-shot. Uh…boring?

The Hunter is so much more than that. It combines superior ranged combat with melee combat knowledge.

In my experience, the Hunter can be a DPS, CC, or even have their pet tank. I know that I can do DPS and my pet could tank ZF at level 45, so, yeah. Hunters are versatile.

I chose to be a hybrid Hunter, with a build of 48/13/0. This allowed me to level quickly and still have Aimed Shot and the reduced shot costs. I enjoy this build thoroughly, and I know that this build isn’t for everyone. For example, some players enjoy watching their victims squirm before finishing them off (Survival). Others just want to kill you quickly and efficiently so that they move on the next target (Marksman). And others like to humiliate the opponent who tries to send my pet packing (Beast Mastery).

As you can see, playing a Hunter can be fun. You can have a pet that fits your play style, the ability to shoot bullets or arrows at an opponent continuously, or just the fact that you have your own personal tank.

However, playing a Hunter can be frustrating. You have to be obsessed with your pets happiness, or you will lose a sufficient chunk of your DPS as well as the strength of your tank pet. And most importantly, people seem to not like Hunters.

And that is the topic for next week:

Why do people hate Hunters?
